USM Haller TV Lowboard: Sizes, Options & Parts List

A lowboard is the most popular TV unit in the USM Haller style: low, long, with chrome tubes and coloured fronts. It holds the TV, hides receiver, console and cables behind drop-down doors and can be extended at any time. Here you will learn which width suits your TV, what to consider for height, depth and cables – and which parts you need to build your own TV lowboard with compatible parts.

Why a modular lowboard as a TV unit?

Conventional TV furniture often fits only one TV and one home. A modular lowboard grows with you: if you buy a bigger TV, you simply add another compartment. If you move, you turn it into a sideboard or hallway unit. Every part – balls, tubes, panels, doors – can be bought and replaced individually.

  • Sturdy: a steel frame of chrome-plated tubes, the top is a powder-coated steel panel.
  • Flexible: every compartment open, with a drop-down door or with a drawer.
  • Timeless: the grid look suits almost any interior, in eleven RAL colours.

The right width for your TV

The system works on a fixed grid: one compartment measures 75 cm wide and 35 cm high and deep from ball centre to ball centre. Because of the balls, the outer size is about 3.6 cm larger. Rule of thumb: the lowboard should be at least as wide as the TV; it looks calmest with a little space on the left and right.

TVApprox. TV widthMatching lowboard
43–50 inch95–112 cm2 × 1 (≈ 154 cm)
55 inch≈ 123 cm2 × 1 (≈ 154 cm)
65 inch≈ 145 cm2 × 1 tight, better 3 × 1 (≈ 229 cm)
75 inch≈ 167 cm3 × 1 (≈ 229 cm)
85 inch≈ 190 cm3 × 1 or 4 × 1 (≈ 304 cm)

The widths are typical values without the stand – measure your TV before planning. If your TV stands on two outer feet instead of a central stand, also check the distance between the feet.

Height and depth

A single-level lowboard is about 39 cm high including levelling feet. That is ideal for most living rooms: seated eye level is roughly 100 to 110 cm – with lowboard and stand, the centre of a 55- to 75-inch screen ends up about there. A two-level sideboard (approx. 74 cm) is usually too high for large TVs; in that case it is better to wall-mount the TV and place the unit underneath.

The grid depth is 35 cm, about 39 cm outside. That is enough for nearly all TV stands. Allow 2 to 3 cm to the wall, as the balls protrude slightly – the gap is also handy for cables.

Fronts: drop-down door, drawer or open?

You can equip every compartment individually. A mix works well:

  • Drop-down door: opens downwards and is mounted with a spring hinge set. Games, cables and everything you don't want to see disappear behind it. A soft-close damper makes it close slowly and quietly, and a door handle with key makes it lockable.
  • Drawer (pull-out shelf): ideal for remotes, controllers and small items.
  • Open compartment: for receiver, console or subwoofer. These devices need air for cooling – and an infrared remote only works with a clear line of sight. The signal does not get through a closed steel door.

Tidy cable management

We do not offer a panel with a cable cut-out, but the system can still be kept neat:

  • Leave out the back panel in the technology compartment. All cables then enter from behind, the front stays closed and the devices get extra ventilation.
  • Place a power strip on the floor of the technology compartment and bundle the cables with Velcro straps along the rear tubes.
  • If the lowboard stands in front of a socket, use the gap to the wall: the cables run invisibly behind the unit.

Which colour goes with the TV?

Dark shades such as anthracite grey or graphite black blend with the black screen into one calm surface – ideal if the TV unit should not be the centre of attention. Pure white and light grey look light and discreet in bright rooms. For an accent, choose pure orange, golden yellow or ruby red. You can also mix colours, for example a grey body with one coloured door.

Extend later

The big advantage of the system: nothing is final. A 2 × 1 becomes a 3 × 1 with one more compartment, a lowboard becomes a sideboard with a second level. With castors instead of feet, the lowboard becomes mobile, for example for cleaning day. Assembly takes only a few tools – explained step by step in our assembly guide.

Frequently asked questions

How wide should a TV lowboard be?

At least as wide as the TV, ideally a little wider. For 55 inches a 2 × 1 of about 154 cm fits, from 75 inches a 3 × 1 of about 229 cm.

Does the remote work through the drop-down door?

Infrared remotes need a clear line of sight. Place receivers and other devices with an IR sensor in an open compartment, or use devices with radio or Bluetooth remotes.

Can I wall-mount the TV and put the lowboard underneath?

Yes, that is often the nicest solution, especially for very large TVs. The cables then run from the wall bracket behind the lowboard into the technology compartment.

How long does assembly take?

With a little practice, a 2 × 1 lowboard is assembled in one to two hours. In our experience, aligning the doors and feet takes the longest.
